Spruce Flats Falls and its grotto below, one of the most impressive waterfalls in the Smokies

According to the National Park Service, 15 national parks set visitation records in 2020 alone! Angels Landing Zion: Top Most Dangerous Hikes in the World?

Angels Landing in Zion National Park, widely considered one of the most dangerous hikes in the world

I'm unquestionably adventurous, but I'm not necessarily a thrillseeker or what you'd call an adrenaline junkie. I love hiking and snorkeling, and floating the Snake River in the Tetons was one of my all-time favorite experiences — but you're not likely to catch me, say, skydiving. That's precisely why hiking Angels Landing in Zion National Park (or any other most dangerous hikes in th[...]

I found this absolutely beautiful mini slot canyon and wonderland of rocks by accident.

Amazingly, it's literal steps from one of the most popular formations in Joshua Tree NP and not another soul was there at sunset...in March, on a weekend.

I'm not great at approximating distance, but it was within earshot of the main trail and a 2-3 minute walk. Just so happens to be somewhat concealed.

The takeway: if you're out there exploring, well...explore!

Do it safely and responsibly, though!

➡️ Be extremely cautious of going off-trail. It's allowed and even encouraged in JTNP, but not most parks. Be aware of fragile vegetation, wildlife habitats, etc.
➡️ Approach places you can't see very well with extreme caution. Make noise to alert any people or animals up ahead that you're approaching.
➡️ Be mindful that others may know of the spot and may be waiting their turn, especially at golden hour. Enjoy it, but give others a chance to do the same.
➡️ Make note of your path as you leave the trail, especially if you're alone! Move something on the trail to mark your path (but make sure to replace it!) or drop a pin.
