Hiking in the Midwest may not involve epic mountain summits or alpine terrain, but the trails may seriously surprise you...in terms of both difficulty and features! This hike, Dunes Succession Trail in Indiana Dunes NP, was an absolute blast and just challenging enough (I meannnn - look at all those stairs!). Also, side note. I'm still not convinced Lake Michigan isn't actually an ocean 🤯 We've been heavy into the Ozarks' river/float culture all spring and summer, but I'm STOKED to transition into hiking season and explore more. 👀 Check out my WRITING highlight for my recent story on hiking in Missouri for @midwestlivingmag #midwest #midwesthiking #midwestmoment #midwestisbest #indianadunes #indianadunesnationalpark #lakemichigan

Have you ever heard of a concept like this? The Sharing Shack has a very simple concept: borrow what you need on your way into Glacier, then on your way home, drop off items others may be able to use. It started with bear spray but has quickly grown to just about anything. We grabbed coffee creamer, tortillas, potatoes, and trash bags. There were even sleeping bags, coolers, and hiking boots when we stopped in! Not only does this save money, it also reduces waste. AND it's an awesome way to give back to and participate in the outdoor community 🫶 Wouldn't it be amazing to see more of these pop up around the world? Share this to spread the idea (and definitely with anyone you know headed to Glacier!)! 📍 Right off Highway 2 in Columbia Falls, an easy stop for anyone coming from the west #glaciernationalpark #glacier #montanagram #columbiafalls #takewhatyouneed #payitforward #outdoorcommunity #nationalparkgeek

This is a bit of a controversial take... Because there are SO many epic hikes in Glacier National Park, and this one takes some serious effort. But the Highline down Swiftcurrent Pass into Many Glacier serves up tremendous 'bang for your buck', very literally traversing the park and showing off a bit of *everything*. Waterfalls galore, a historic backcountry chalet, wildflowers, valleys, alpine lakes, and non-stop views. You also have the option to detour to Grinnell Glacier Overlook or the Swiftcurrent fire tower lookout. This hike is NOT easy, will 100% take all day, and requires shuttling or getting a ride. We clocked over 17 miles 🫣 and took about 14 hours (including a lengthy lunch stop at the chalet and filtering water twice). There are a few ways to do it, but we parked our vehicle at Logan Pass, stayed the night at Many Glacier Hotel, and took two shuttles to retrieve our vehicle the next morning. . . . . #hikingadventures #glaciernationalpark #highlinetrail #hikingcouple #montana #girlwithacamera #nationalparks
