Off Roading in Moab Utah: A Comprehensive Guide

A UTV stopped while off roading in Moab

As soon as we settled on visiting Moab in November for a 30th birthday trip (not mine!), I began planning our itinerary. We agreed almost immediately that off roading in Moab was a priority — in addition, of course, to hiking and exploring Canyonlands and Arches National Park, two of the country's most iconic. For the uninitiated, off roading in Moab is legendary. The enchanting red "[...]

Hi, I’m Taryn!

Hi, I’m Taryn!

I travel extensively, kinda like to hike and think of myself as "outdoorsy," love to eat (and drink!) well, and I'm a wannabe photographer. If that resonates with you, I'd love to connect! Settle in and stay awhile!

Let’s connect on Instagram!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

In this season of reflecting and thankfulness, I'm incredibly grateful for having found a sense of place. Some people may not understand what that means, while others immediately get it...which means you, too, know that feeling.

The past few months (okay, who am I kidding, the better part of this year 😅) have been the busiest and wildest of my life, but I've also never felt more 'home.' Ironically, that has included moving cross-country, driving literally across the country no less than FOUR times in just four months, living in 3 different places in that same timeframe as we transitioned, and then moving Steven as well and combining households. It's an odd juxtaposition and it's certainly come with its fair share of challenges and highs and lows, but I wouldn't trade being right here for anything.

I still haven't shared SO much from this fall - my epic solo road trip through Glacier and across the country, our honeymoon, a pleasantly surprising, amazing press trip to Indianapolis, and a week spent in the Smokies earlier this month.

Over the next few weeks as the year comes to a close, I'll do that and catch up with y'all. But bear with me, because it probably won't be in any sort of order (kinda like my life of late 🤪).

One of the prettiest, most magical spots in the Tetons is also one of the least crowded. 📍 Leigh Lake

Maybe because it's right next to uber-crowded Jenny Lake and String Lakes, I have no idea, but....go. There's an excellent chance you'll have it mostly to yourself!

This was an absolutely gorgeous Friday in late September (i.e.; busy season 🍂🍁), and we only saw two other groups on the trail all afternoon.

If you love the mountains, honeymoon in the mountains! There's no rule that says you have to go somewhere tropical or exotic.

In 5 days, we hiked, rode the Jackson Hole Aerial Tram, watched spectacular sunsets, spotted moose and bear 🫎, ate incredibly well, took scenic drives, fished 🎣, cruised across Lake Jenny, and more.

🍁 Fall color was at peak 9/26-10/1

This right here is EXACTLY why I asked @tdcameraman to shoot our elopement.

I obviously had no idea what exactly he'd come up with, but I knew 150% it would be incredible. We didn't give him any sort of shot list and we let him do 100% of the scouting on his own. We simply trusted the process and his creative genius, and could not be happier with the result.

By the way, Taylor isn't an elopement or wedding photographer. In fact, most of the time he doesn't even shoot pictures with people 😂

Just goes to show that you truly never know what may come from a simple conversation. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there!

Taylor, thank you so much for capturing us so accurately in our untamed, very non-traditional light. And especially thank you for being committed to this vision 😅🙏

When I say we eloped, I mean it very literally. We didn't have a single wedding guest; it was just the two of us and our photographer @tdcameraman .... who is an absolutely incredible human, and also got ordained so he could be our legal officiant.

Somehow, he managed to capture us reading our vows to one another, then said a few words to make it official, and THEN got some more amazing photos like this one, all in the same few seconds.

This was RIGHT after exchanging I do's, at our gorgeous ceremony site in Custer State Park. Not a soul walked by, and the lighting and weather were both perfect and magical. A fairy tale ❤️

When @tdcameraman sent us our wedding gallery, I was in the middle of 6 things (per usual 🤪), so I quickly skimmed through the 200+ pictures. I IMMEDIATELY honed in on this one and sent it to him.

He replied back that it was probably his fave of the weekend, too.

So, this seems like a good place to start.
